We believe with a high degree of confidence that most of the Orlando shooter’s family members are involved in money laundering and terrorist financing.

Labeling the Orlando attack an act of domestic terrorism, law enforcement officials reported that Omar Mateen called 911 once the attacks began and swore allegiance over the phone to the Islamic State. Of an estimated 320 people in the club that night, nearly one-third were shot. The evening of the shooting, at 2:30 a.m., Mateen’s second and current wife Salman texted his cell phone, asking, “Where are you?” Omar Mateen texted back, “Do you see what’s happening?” She replied, “No” and he responded with, “I love you, babe.” There were no further text messages exchanged between the two, though Salman did call her husband again a few hours later during his standoff with police. He did not answer his phone.

In a video that has recently been posted on the Web, Mateen expressed gratitude towards the Afghan Taliban, the same group that stones homosexuals to death and launches terrorist attacks on U.S. soldiers, calling them “our warrior brothers.” He has criticized U.S. actions in Afghanistan and complained about American and other Western “foreigners” in his home country. Below are profiles of Mateen, his father, his two wives, and his brother-in-law.

Profile of Omar Mir Seddique Mateen (shooter)
Born:  Nov. 16, 1986, at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Queens.
Died:  June 12, 2016
Father:  Seddique Mir Mateen
Mother:  Shahla Mateen
Sisters:  Sabrina – 31 (married); Mariam – 27 (married); Mary – 25
Mateen’s father and mother were both Afghanistan citizens who immigrated to the U.S. Seddique Mir Mateen became a naturalized American citizen on Nov. 17, 1989. The family was then living in Westbury, NY.

Mateen’s Early Life
Mateen was 29 at the time of his death. He was born in New York but as a child, he moved with his family to Florida in 1991. The Sun Sentinel newspaper reported that between 1992 through 1999, during Mateen’s enrollment in the School District of St. Lucie County, there were 31 documented incidents, including him being disruptive, misbehaving, and even striking a student. Growing up, Omar attended the  Fort Pierce Islamic Center.

Phone:  (772) 462-0242

This center’s religious services catered to the small Muslim community of Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties. It had about 150 regular attendees. Both Omar Mateen and Moner Mohammad Abu-Salha, the American suicide bomber in Syria, attended this mosque. The Treasure Coast has four mosques, all of which are Sunni. The area is home to about 1,400 residents of Southeast and South Central Asian heritage and about 750 people of Middle Eastern descent, according to U.S. Census data from 2014.

Moner Mohammad Abu-Salha, a/k/a ‘Abu Haraya Al-Amriki’ or ‘Al-Amriki’ meaning ‘the American’ in Arabic. Like Omar Mateen, Moner Mohammad grew up in Florida (Vero Beach), and both boys attended the Fort Pierce Islamic Center.

Mateen’s Education
According to the Sun Sentinel, Omar was expelled from high school, then later returned to school and finally graduated from Stuart Adult Community High School. 2006 court documents showed a name change for Omar, from Omar Mir Seddique to Omar Mir Seddique Mateen (adding Mateen as his surname to match that of his parents). Omar earned an Associate’s Degree in criminal justice technology from Indian River State College in 2006 (This level is required to become a law enforcement officer in Florida.)

Mateen’s Professional Training and Career
While still studying at Indian River State College he entered a Florida Department of Corrections training program. He began working for the Florida Department of Corrections at Martin Correctional Institution, which is a facility just west of Port St. Lucie.

The Florida Department of Corrections showed that before working for G4S, Mr. Mateen worked briefly as a state correctional officer [at Martin Correctional Institution]. Alberto C. Moscoso, a department spokesman, said that Mr. Mateen worked at Martin Correctional Institution from October 2006 to April 2007, but did not say why Omar left.

Records released by the State Department of Corrections, where Mr. Mateen trained as a correctional officer, suggested that he was a poor trainee. Days before the April 2007 massacre at Virginia Tech that left 33 people dead, Omar suggested he might bring a weapon to the training academy. A warden recommended firing Mr. Mateen, who repeatedly slept in class and had also been absent without leave. He was fired in late April 2007. “In light of recent tragic events at Virginia Tech, Officer Mateen’s inquiry about bringing a weapon to class is at best extremely disturbing,” the warden, Powell H. Skipper, wrote in a letter. Late Friday, G4S said that it had not talked to Mr. Mateen’s prison employer before his hiring, but had talked to four other previous employers who confirmed his employment, including one for whom he was working simultaneously during his probationary period with the prison. The company said Mr. Mateen’s application indicated he had been dismissed from the jail job for taking two days off because of a fever.

At the time of the shooting, Omar was employed by the multinational security firm G4S. [] G4S hired him on September 10, 2007. G4S is reported to have more than 600,000 employees and is among the world’s largest private employers. He was employed by G4S for nine years. He was most recently stationed at a guard house in a residential golfing community. G4S is now facing scrutiny over whether it adequately screened him for the gun-carrying, licensed security guard position at the time that he was hired in 2007. The firm stated in its FL State licensing submission that a Dr. Nudelman had conducted the required psychological test (MMPI). Dr. Carol Nudelman said in a statement to NBC News that she had nothing to do with the psychological evaluation of Mateen which the security firm had submitted to the state of Florida on Sept. 6, 2007. The Wackenhut Corporation, a then-subsidiary of G4S, was the security company that hired Mateen before G4S Secure Solutions USA buying the firm.

FBI Investigations of Mateen before the Shooting
Officials said they had investigated Mr. Mateen in 2013 and 2014. He was interviewed a total of three separate times by the FBI. The FBI’s most intense investigation into Mr. Mateen came in a 10-month span beginning in the spring of 2013.  At a news conference on Monday, FBI Director James Comey said that Mr. Mateen had alarmed his court co-workers in 2013 with claims of a connection to Al Qaeda, assertions that he was a member of the Shia militant organization Hezbollah, and statements that he hoped the police would raid his apartment and assault his family “so that he could martyr himself.”

What Omar said to his co-workers and what exactly took place in the courthouse is not clear. In a statement, St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara said Mr. Mateen had been removed after “inflammatory” comments, and that his office had requested the 2013 FBI investigation. “Omar became very agitated and made a comment that he could have Al Qaeda kill my employee and his family,” Sheriff Mascara said, according to an account published on a local newspaper website, TCPalm. Mr. Mateen remained an employee after the department had learned in 2013 that he’d been investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and that a local sheriff that same year had insisted on his removal from the courthouse where he was a contract security guard.

Nigel Fairbrass, a spokesman for G4S, said that when courthouse officials sought Mr. Mateen’s removal, they had not told the company about specific terrorism-related comments. Instead, Mr. Fairbrass said, they stated that his behavior was not conducive to a courthouse environment and that he had developed strained relationships with other workers. When the company had interviewed Mr. Mateen about the situation, he’d acknowledged making inflammatory statements to courthouse employees, saying he’d only done so in anger because he had been continually harassed, Mr. Fairbrass said. Mr. Mateen had also told the company about being questioned by the FBI, but had said that the agency had cleared him, Mr. Fairbrass said. This was the first time the company heard about the FBI interview, the company spokesman said.

In 2014 the FBI discovered a possible tie between Mr. Mateen and Moner Mohammad Abusalha. In 2013, Moner Mohammad Abusalha, from Vero Beach, FL had blown himself up with 16 tons of explosives near the city of Ariha in northern Syria. U.S. officials said it was the first time an American had been involved in a suicide attack in Syria. He grew up in the Lakes at Sandridge, a gated community in Vero, and was in his early 20s at the time of his suicide.    He was reportedly trained by and operating for the Nusra Front. His family has four children/father-owned local grocery stores. A senior law enforcement official said Mr. Abusalha’s father is Palestinian, but it was not clear where he lived before coming to the United States.

Again, the FBI closed its inquiry after finding “minimal” contact between the two men. After the terrorist investigations had cleared Mr. Mateen, he maintained both his Florida security officer license and his job. He also kept his Florida firearms license.

The FBI interviewed him twice during this investigation, but after surveillance, records checks and witness interviews, agents were unable to verify any terrorist links and closed their investigation. The FBI director said that Omar was on a terrorist watchlist from 2013 to 2014, but that months of intense investigation into his foreign travels, his inflammatory language with co-workers and his possible motivations did not produce enough evidence to arrest him.

Mr. Mateen’s father is an outspoken Afghan political activist, but that played no part in the investigations of his son that the FBI carried out in 2013 and 2014, a law enforcement official said.

Mateen’s Recent Trips Overseas
The government of Saudi Arabia reported on Monday that Mr. Mateen had traveled to that country twice to make a religious pilgrimage known as the umrah. The Interior Ministry said he had visited in March 2011 for ten days, and in March 2012 for eight days.

For Muslims, the umrah is one of the sacred pilgrimages to Mecca, the holy city in Saudi Arabia. Umrah can be made at any time of year. More than 11,000 Americans make pilgrimages to Mecca each year.

Home Ownership Transfer
In April, months before the Orlando shooting, Omar Mateen sold his 1/3 ownership interest in his family’s house to his sister, Sabrina Abasin and her husband 43-year-old Afghan-born Mustafa Abasin, using a quit claim deed. Omar’s current wife, Noor Salman, was present at the sale. She was recorded on the transaction as the witness. The home is valued around $164k. It is reported that Omar Mateen, his father Seddique (Mir Seddique, aka Seddique Mateen) along with his sister Mariam Seddique had jointly purchased the Port St. Lucie home in September 2013. It is reported that the three borrowed $76,000 from Seacoast National Bank to pay for the home. According to city records, on April 5, Omar Mateen signed a quit claim deed transferring his ownership in the Port St. Lucie residence to his sister, Sabrina Abasin and brother-in-law, Mustafa Abasin. Two months earlier in February, the father Seddique had also signed over his one-third ownership deed in the property to his daughter Sabrina and son-in-law. Omar’s sister, Mariam Seddique, did the same in April, giving the Abasin family full ownership of the single family home.

At the time of the shooting in June, Omar Mateen and wife Noor Salman were living in a Fort Pierce apartment [2513 S 17TH ST APT 107,  FORT PIERCE, FL 34982-5707] owned by the sister Sabrina Abasin and brother-in-law Mustafa Abasin. Since the single-family home had a phone in Omar’s name, he may have previously lived there. It is possible that either before or after the larger single family home was “gifted” over to the sister Sabrina for just a few hundred dollars, Omar and his family swapped residences into the smaller apartment owned by Sabrina.

Was Mateen Gay?
A former classmate at Indian River Community College told the Palm Beach Post that Mateen went to gay bars with classmates and once tried to pick him up. Four regulars at Pulse, the nightclub where the shooting occurred, told the Orlando Sentinel that they had seen Mateen there previously.

Weapons Used in the Shooting
Omar purchased the two guns he used just a few days before the shooting, a 9-mm semi-automatic pistol, and a .223-caliber assault rifle. During the nightclub shooting Omar Mateen used a Sig Sauer MCX .223 caliber semi-automatic rifle and a 9mm Glock 17 semi-automatic pistol. The Sig MCX is not technically an AR-15 variant because the internal parts in the Sig MCX are different from those of the standard AR-15 platform. The Sig MCX uses a gas piston system to cycle the action, whereas the standard AR-15 uses direct impingement. Both the AR-15 and the MCX fall into the “modern sporting rifle” category.  The weapons were purchased from the St. Lucie Shooting Center ( Edward Henson is the President of St. Lucie Shooting Center, LLC. He had 20 years of combined service with the New York City Housing Authority Police and the NYPD and was assigned to the Detective Bureau for 16 of those 20 years.  At the time of his gun purchase before the event, Matee held a valid state security guard license and was permitted to carry a firearm. He legally completed the Federal form allowing the purchase (ATF form 4473, Firearms Transaction Record, or Form 4473 for an Over-the-Counter gun purchase).

During the Attack
Mateen made calls to emergency 911 dispatchers from the club in which he pledged loyalty to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. During the attack, Omar talked by cell phone to law enforcement officials about further carnage, claimed allegiance to the Islamic State and praised the Boston Marathon bombers.

Profile of Seddique Mir Mateen  (shooter’s father)
A former insurance salesman for NY Life, Omar Mateen’s father, is Mir Seddique, also known as Seddique Mateen. Seddique’s company, The Durand Jirga, Inc., Florida Corporation holds a license from the FL Dept. of Health for Respiratory Care Issued 8/24/2011 and expiring on 5/31/2017.

After the 1979 Russian invasion of Afghanistan, the father, Seddique, and mother, Shahla Mateen, moved to New York. Omar and the couple’s three other children were all born in NY.

Seddique claims on YouTube to be currently running for president in Afghanistan and regularly describes his campaign to become President of Afghanistan in posts on Facebook. According to the Washington Post, he announced his candidacy on his YouTube show.  The most recent video on Mateen’s YouTube channel shows him declaring his candidacy for the Afghan presidency. The timing of the video is strange, as it came a year after presidential elections were held in Afghanistan.

He is a media presenter for the Afghan diaspora. Currently, he is presenting a program, The Durand Jirga Show [The British traced the “Durand Line” to separate Afghanistan from Pakistan. It, therefore, divides Pashtun people. Seddique Mir Mateen’s program claims to fight to re-unite these people.] on Payam-e-Afghan Satellite TV (based in San Francisco). A descendant of the Pashtun tribe, he lent his support to the Taliban. After President Hamid Karzai’s departure in September 2014, he refuses to recognize the agreement between Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah and comes out for the president in exile of Afghanistan.

Omar Khatab, the owner of the California-based satellite channel Payam-e-Afghan, said in an interview that Seddique Mateen occasionally bought time on his channel to broadcast a show called “Durand Jirga,” which focused in part on the disputed Durand Line, the frontier between Afghanistan and Pakistan demarcated by the Indian subcontinent’s former British rulers. Khatab said Seddique Mateen would show up at his studio in Canoga Park, California “three or four times a year” to tape his shows. “He’d talk for about two to three hours,” Khatab said in a phone interview. “He’d buy his own time and come here and broadcast and leave within a day.”

While Seddique is the owner of a Florida Corporation with the name PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT OF AFGHANISTAN CORPORATION that operates from his home at 519 SW Bayshore Blvd, Port Saint Lucie, FL 34983, legally that does not make him the elected president of any country.

Seddique has a large presence on YouTube, with dozens of interview-style foreign language and subtitled videos: has a list of 105 separate videos, but most of them are multiple segments of the same presentation.

On June 13, Seddique posted on Facebook that he was “saddened by his son’s actions during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan,” as translated by CBS News. But then he goes on to say, “God will punish those involved in homosexuality…not an issue that humans should deal with.” June 12, 2016

In most of his social media postings, Mr. Seddique Mateen takes the position that the Pakistan Government is to blame for most of the problems with Islamic extremism in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The father Seddique also drives a Gray 2002 BMW 525i Automatic registered to his Bayshore Blvd. home. The FL license plate is 607YVQ. That make and model are shown below.

Profile of Sitora Yusufiy  (first wife, 2009-2011)
Currently resides in Boulder, CO, and has been cooperative with law enforcement. She first met Omar Mateen in 2008 through the online social website In a June 13, 2016  New York Times article she claimed that her new husband, Omar, beat her, confiscated her paychecks and isolated her in their Florida home. With the help of her parents, Mrs. Yusufiy fled her residence and husband in 2009. Ms. Yusufiy had originally immigrated to the United States from Uzbekistan in 2000, following her father, who had arrived the previous year. She had lived in northern New Jersey and worked as a daycare teacher when she was married to him. No children. The marriage lasted approximately 4 months.

Profile of Noor Zahi Salman  (second and current wife married on September 29, 2011)
The marriage took place near her family home in Hercules, California, in Contra Costa County. The couple has a three-year-old son. She is the child of Palestinian immigrants. Her parents are Ekbal Zahi and Bassam Abdallah Salman; father is deceased; mother still lives in Rodeo. Noor’s mother, Ekbal, came from a large family, the Qu’rans, in the Al Birah area on the northern outskirts of Ramallah. Ekbal’s brother is named Mohammed Tayem Qu’ran. It is reported that the Palestinian parents’ U.S. naturalization papers were approved in 1984. She was born on May 25, 1986 and today is age 30. Her place of birth was Rodeo, CA, a small suburb of 9,000 people just east of an oil refinery near San Pablo Bay in Contra Costa County. It is reported that she had learning difficulties. Her former teacher, now retired, stated that when she was in middle school she was enrolled in special education classes. She graduated from John Swett High School in 2004 and has two brothers, Bassam and Abdallah.

A second-generation American, Salman was born into a well-to-do Palestinian family that emigrated to California from Ramallah, in the West Bank, in the 1970s. Salman, the eldest of four daughters, attended a business college in nearby Concord. Noor has a paternal  aunt, Mona Salman, who lives in the West Bank.

Noor was previously married to Ahmed Abu-Rahma [Aburahma] (2005–2009), a Palestinian man. Theirs was an arranged marriage organized in the Palestinian territories. At age 12 she moved from the U.S. to Ramallah and entered a local school. The marriage was arranged in Ramallah, and they returned to the U.S. as a married couple. Court records in the United States show that Noor Salman wed Ahmed Abu-Rahma on June 8, 2005. She filed for divorce in 2009, citing irreconcilable differences. The divorce was finalized on Feb. 26, 2010, at Contra Costa County Superior Court in Martinez.
She has spoken to the FBI, telling investigators that she accompanied Mateen to the Pulse nightclub at least once before the massacre. She also said she drove with him to purchase ammunition, and pleaded with him not to commit the shooting.

Profile of Brother-in-law Mustafa Aurakzai, aka  Mustafa Abasin
(insurance broker/salesman for Allianz; husband of sister Sabrina)
There are several spellings of his last name, including incorrect spelling on corporate records. The incorrect spelling is  Aurakzia. Abasin, also active in Afghan politics, has echoed Mateen’s criticism of the U.S. and foreigners in his home country. According to an English translation by, Abasin criticizes Afghans who have adopted American culture in a paper he recently posted in Farsi. He also rails against tribal chiefs who do not speak out against democracy in Afghanistan. In recent social media posts, Abasin blames guns for his brother-in-law’s shooting, calls presumptive GOP  presidential  candidate Donald Trump a “racist” for wanting to restrict Muslim immigration, and says he’s involved in working with “refugee camps.” It’s not clear if the refugees include the displaced Syrian nationals the Obama administration is resettling in U.S. cities. Abasin’s occupation is listed as health insurance broker, while his wife Sabrina is listed as a cosmetologist. A Facebook page lists Abasin as an independent broker with Allianz, and a member of the Association of Pakistani-Americans of Central Florida and the Iranian Cultural Society of Greater Miami-ICS.
